WFXT, Virtual Channel 25 (UHF Digital Channel 34), is a Fox-owned television station licensed in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. The station is owned by the Atlanta-based Cox Media Group. WFXT Studios are located on Fox Drive (near the Boston Providence Highway) in Deadham, and their transmitter is on Cabot Street in Needham. This is one of six Boston television stations that are available in Canada through the Bell TV satellite provider and EastLink cable provider. WFXT is Fox's largest subsidiary in terms of market size, which is neither owned nor managed by the network, although it was previously owned by Fox twice (1987–1990 and 1995–2014).
The station was first signed on air on October 10, 1977 as WXNE-TV (stands for "Christ (X) in New England"); Originally acting as an independent station, it was founded by the then Portsmouth, Virginia. Christian Broadcasting Network. Having received permission to build the station from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in June 1972, CBN set its sights on channel 25 to begin work within one year. However, due to various delays in obtaining the location of the studio and the transmitter, the wait for the final registration of the station was more than five years. The early format of the WXNE-TV program was aimed at a family audience consisting of senior syndicated reruns and a decent number of religious programs, including CBN's flagship show The 700 Club, hosted by department founder Pat Robertson. Religious programs were held about six hours a day during the week and during the day on Sundays.
The station also carried daily and Sunday Mass from the Boston Catholic Television Center. Secular programming consisted of westerns, old films, family drama series, old short films, and classic television series.
