Leicestershire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first class clubs in the county of England and Wales that form part of the local cricket structure. It represents the historic county of Leicestershire. He also served as the Rutland County Representative. The club's limited edition team is called the Leicestershire Foxes. Founded in 1879, the club held minor county status until 1894 when it was given first class status prior to participating in the county championship. Since then, Leicestershire has competed in every domestic senior cricket competition in England.
The club is based on Grace Road in Leicester, known as the Uptonsteel County Ground, and has also played home matches within the traditional county boundaries at Ailestone Road, Hinckley, Loughborough, Melton Mowbray, Ashby de la Zoush and Coleville in Leicester. . ; and at Uppingham and Oakham on the border of Rutland.
In limited edition cricket the colors of the jersey are red with black trim for the Royal London One Day Cup and black with red trim for the T20. The T-shirt is sponsored by Oval Insurance Broking, which has Highcross Leicester (mall) on the upper back of the T-shirt.
Leicestershire are in the Second Division of the County Championship and in the North Group of the Royal London One Day Cup. They recently finished the county championship for the sixth time since the two divisions started. Their best performance in years was at the Twenty20 Cup, where the Foxes won the trophy three times in eight years.
Cricket may not have reached Leicestershire until the 18th century. An announcement in the Leicester Journal dated 17 August 1776 is the earliest known mention of cricket in the county. Shortly thereafter, he took part in key matches against Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket Club, especially Nottingham Cricket Club and Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).
