DD News is a news channel of Doordarshan, India's only 24-hour terrestrial TV news channel broadcasting only in Hindi and previously in English. The Prasar Bharati Board approved the proposal to launch a 24-hour news channel instead of DD Metro, which is closing. This was later confirmed by the Union Cabinet at a meeting on 3 October 2003.
DD Metro has been transformed into DD News, which opened on November 3, 2003, into a 24-hour TV news channel. Terrestrial access area is 21.6% on area basis and 44.9% on Indian population basis.
In 2019, the international sister channel DD India became a private channel for English News and Current Affairs from Doordarshan. After that, the CEO of parent company Prasar Bharati claimed that DD News will be "100% Hindi soon", but not yet implemented due to the availability of content to be published. A special feature of the channel includes a Sanskrit news show called "Vaarta".
DD News mobile app for Android and Apple was launched on 7 May 2015 by then Indian Minister of Information and Broadcasting Shri Arun Jaitley. The application aims to deliver news instantly 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
