KHNL, Virtual Channel 13 (UHF digital channel 35), is an NBC-owned television station licensed in Honolulu, Hawaii, United States. The station is owned by Gray Television, as part of a duopoly with the CBS KGMB affiliate (channel 5). Two stations share the studios on Wyakamilo Road in central Honolulu; The KHNL transmitter is located in Akupu, Hawaii. The cable transmits the station via the 8th Oceanic Spectrum channel and the 13th Telcom Hawaiian channel.
On May 5, 1957, Kaiser Broadcasting signed a contract at the first independent station in Hawaii with the letters KHVH (according to its affiliate AM and link to the Hawaiian Village Hotel at that time), taking channel position 13 of VHF. KHVH was the first station to bring color television to Hawaii, and was then announced as a movie station (its first broadcast program was “Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo” at 7 p.m., and then was signed after the film was completed), and had large movie library from MGM and Warner Bros.
