Moonbug Entertainment is a London-based media company with a second headquarters in Los Angeles that creates, produces and distributes children's video and audio content. Moonbug owns intellectual property in children's entertainment, including YouTube channels CoComelon and Little Baby Bum, as well as YouTube series such as Mia's Magic Playground, Blippi, and My Magic Pet Morphle.
Since its founding in 2018, the company has acquired numerous TV series and franchises in the fields of animation, live performance and puppetry. Moonbug shows can also be found on many streaming services. Moonbug programming is distributed on over 100 platforms and is available in 26 languages worldwide.
Moonbug Entertainment was co-founded in 2018 by Rene Rechtman, former international president of Maker Studios (now Disney Digital Network), and John Robson, former managing director of WildBrain (now WildBrain Spark). The company was incorporated on February 9, 2018 under the name Project ABC Holdings Limited. Rechtman himself was born into a Jewish family from Copenhagen, Denmark.
In December 2020, Moonbag named David Levin, former VP of Kids Programming for Disney Channels Europe, Africa, UK and Ireland, as head of the studio. It is reported that on October 19, 2021, the Blackstone Group-backed company will be interested in purchasing Moonbug. Later, on November 5, 2021, Moonbug was acquired by an unnamed company led by Kevin Mayer and Tom Staggs, which was also backed by Blackstone.
