Televisão Pública de Angola E.P. or TPA is the national broadcaster of the South African state of Angola. He also runs the international channel TPA Internacional. TPA, headquartered in the capital of Luanda, broadcasts in Portuguese. The international channel broadcasts select shows targeting foreign audiences and the Angolan community abroad.
TPA1 is currently the only public broadcaster in Angola following the arrival of the private channels TV Zimbo and Palanca TV and the privatization of TPA2.
Before the TPA was created, several experiments were carried out in Colonial Angola: the first was carried out in 1962 at the Rádio Clube do Huambo. On January 8, 1964, Rádio Clube de Benguela conducted a second experiment, and then, on June 22, 1970, Luanda tested television for the first time.
Televisão Pública de Angola was founded on June 27, 1973 as Radiotelevisão Portuguesa de Angola by the Portuguese government authorities. The first television signal was launched on October 18, 1975 in Luanda. Less than a year after its official launch and the country's independence on June 25, 1976, the company first changed its name to Televisão Popular de Angola.
In 1979 TPA began considering expansion options, first in Benguela and then in 1981 in Huambo. It was in Huambo that the first regional production center was founded.
In 1982 TPA began producing programs in native languages, the first two of which were Malange and N'Dalatando. Currently, the so-called "national languages" pay special attention to news, for which there is a special block on the main channel.
