China Central Television (Chinese: 中国中央电视台, Zhōngguó Zhōngyāng Diànshìtái, English: China Central Television), or commonly abbreviated CCTV, is China's major television broadcaster.
China Central Television made its first broadcast on September 2, 1958, as Beijing Television. The name of the network was changed to CCTV on May 1, 1978.[1] On September 2, 2008, on its 50th anniversary, the new CCTV Headquarters was opened.
On December 31, 2016, CCTV's international channels in foreign languages were introduced to the world under the new "CGTN" ("China Global Television Network") brand.
