Hír TV is a Hungarian television news channel, the first of its kind made in the country. It began broadcasting on January 2, 2003.

On November 26, 2002, the TV channel was registered with 20 million Hungarian Forints (~64,350 euros) of capital. Television's first CEO was Gábor Borókai, who had recently served as the first spokesman for Viktor Orbán's government (from 1998 to 2002), and the first editor-in-chief was Imre Dlusztus, who was editor-in-chief at one point. . . from Délmagyarország (meaning "Southern Hungary"), the local Szeged newspaper.

The first test broadcast began on December 2, 2002. After a month of test broadcasts, the television channel began its regular broadcast on January 2, 2003, under contract with various cable television companies.
