Russia-1 (Russian: Россия-1) is a state-run Russian television channel first broadcast on February 14, 1956 as Program 2 in the Soviet Union. It was restarted as RTR on May 13, 1991, and is now known as Russia 1. It is the flagship channel of the All-Russia State Television and Radio Company (VGTRK).
Russia-1 has the second largest audience on Russian television. In a typical week, 75% are seen by the city's Russians, compared to 83% for the top channel, Channel One. The two channels are similar in their politics and compete directly in entertainment. Russia-1 has many regional variants and broadcasts in many languages.
