Russia 24 is a television channel that broadcasts international news from the Russian state. It was created on July 1, 2006 in Moscow. It is published in Russian. The leadership of the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, represented by its chairman Oleg Dobrodeev, had intentions to launch an information channel on the basis of the information programs directorate of the Rossiya TV channel for several years, beginning in the early 2000s. Work in this direction was launched in 2003 when the former head of the NTV, TV-6 and TVS information programs Grigory Krichevsky, who was originally supposed to be the editor-in-chief of the new channel, transferred to VGTRK, however, he went on the air for various reasons (clarification of the concept of filling the air, possible payback of the project of the information channel) constantly dragged on. By 2006, Dobrodeyev personally was engaged in the project of the information channel together with the top management of the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company. The main work on preparing the channel for broadcasting was completed by the 15th anniversary of the broadcasting of the first issue of Vesti.
