The Sikh Channel is a free-to-air satellite television channel in the UK focused on Sikhi. It broadcasts throughout Europe on satellite television, in Canada and is also broadcast live on the Internet.
The Sikh channel began broadcasting on April 13, 2009 on the Sky 840 channel, replacing Brit Hits. The Sikh channel primarily focuses on educational and religious programming for the Sikh community. It operates from a studio in the Aston area of Birmingham.
The Sikh channel was created by Davinder Singh Bal in April 2009 by TV Legal Limited. TV Legal formed The Sikh Channel Community Broadcasting Company Limited to accept donations, which are used to pay for broadcasting and programming costs.
Sikh Channel Community Broadcasting Company Limited became a registered community interest company on September 25, 2009 and a registered charity on June 2, 2010. In December 2012, TV Legal Limited transferred the channel's television broadcasting license a Sikh Channel Community Interest Company Limited.
On April 18, 2013, the channel was launched in Canada as "ATN Sikh Channel" through an exclusive license agreement with Asian Television Network.
